➡In Sept 2024, Union Cabinet approved 2000 crore for Mission Mausam.

➡It’s a major upgrade of the forecasting infrastructure & funding research into better understanding weather modification.

➡First tranche of the mission will be up to 2026.

➡Implementing Agency & Nodal body Executing is Ministry of Earth Sciences.

➡Decided to procure and install up to 60 weather radars, 15 wind profilers and 15 radio sondes - Results in regular updates on wind speed, Atmospheric pressure, Humidity, Temperature etc which can be used to predict more accurate & precise rain forecasts.

➡Setting up a cloud Simulation Chambers at the Indian Institute of tropical meteorology, Pune which Helps in modeling rain clouds with precision.

➡Currently India has 39 radars or one for every 432 km.
